THE B3 JACKET
*The original B3 jacket (Contract 43-13616 AF). We have based the pattern and replicated the important details from this jacket.
The B3 sheepskin flight jacket, which was the classic shearling jacket worn by USAAF high-altitude bomber crews during WWII, was designed specifically for aircraft bombers who flew at high altitudes. As such, it became known as the “bomber jacket”. The term “Bomber jacket” and “B3 bomber jacket” originated from civilian makers after the war, and generally refers to more modern interpretations, loosely based on the original B3 jacket. The type B-3 was standardized in 1934 and produced by various manufacturers, each with their own unique version. Our jacket is based on an original B3 jacket (43-13616 AF) in our collection. We carefully studied the jacket, replicated the pattern, and ensured that all important details were included in our design. This B3 flight jacket is an ideal natural insulator for cold weather, as the soft sheep wool envelopes the body, retaining maximum body warmth.
